Let's Have a Government in Washington That's
ACCOUNTABLE to its Constituents!
- A SANE Foreign Policy
- PROTECTION of Civil and Human Rights
- Fiscal RESPONSIBILITY
What's going on in Washington? Are our representatives looking out for our
best interests? In my conversations with local constituents, they're
frustrated at the lack of interest and accountability in Washington for the
issues that WE care about.
In the past 3-1/2 years, we've seen our economy fall flat and our billion-
dollar budget surpluses turned into trillion-dollar deficits. The
President coos about freedom and democracy, but promotes laws that erode
our civil rights and ignores international human rights treaties. He
promises security, but invades a helpless third-world country with false
justifications while doing nothing to protect our power plants, our
water sources, our transportation infrastructure. And Congress gleefully
goes right along without any challenge.
We deserve to be represented in Washington by someone who shares our values
and our concerns. Someone who's willing to stand up to the corruption
and cronyism that is devouring Washington. Someone who's willing
to put a stop to the raping of our Constitution and restore the rights
promised all of us in our Bill of Rights. Someone who's willing to act
like a real conservative and defend the values that are America.
I am the only peace candidate in this race: The only one that will openly and directly state that the Iraq
invasion was immoral, illegal, and ill-conceived. The Bush Administration was deceitful, reckless and
arrogant in its decision to commit our troops to war. He picked the most expensive, most destructive,
and least effective way to go about effecting a regime change in Iraq. It is outrageous thatCongress
has failed to hold him to tak for the loss of almost 1,000 American soldier's lives, not to mention the
maiming of some 10,000 other soldiers and the deaths of an estimated 50,000+ Iraqi civilians.
It is disgraceful that the Bush Administration has been allowed to get away with so much in the name of the
American people. But this happens only because Congress, our elected watchdogs, are far more interested
in pursuing hearings over a Super Bowl breast than in holding the Bush administration accountable.
I stand for government accountability. I would fight for a foreign policy that actually makes America and the
world safer rather than as a recuirting campaign for Al-Qaeda. I would fight against our policies of unilateral
foreign intervention, overt or otherwise, and demand that we work through international bodies to resolve our
grievances. I would work to ratchet back our military and hammer those swords into plowshares, into local
programs to rebuild our infrastructure and develop jobs for our ailing economy. I would fight to restrore and
strengthen the civil rights that the Bush Administration has taken away from us (with the Democrats' full
approval). And I would fight to create policies that would take the United States into a post-fossil-fuel era,
were we no longer need to rely on unstable foreign dictatorships for our energy needs. I would fight for the
United States to rejoin the international community in protecting our land, our air, our water, and our future.
I reject the "lone-cowboy leadership" that has characterized the role of the United States in the international
community over the past 4 years. Such "leadership" has squandered our international prestige and reckelessly
emptied our coffers while making the world far less safe. As your represnetative, I would fight for the return of the
United States to act as the mature stateman and visionary that we once were for a safer and more propersous future
for all.
My campaign is primarily about three issues:
FOREIGN POLICY,
CIVIL RIGHTS, and
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, all of which
have greatly suffered in the past four years under the current
Republican administration.
I am also supportive of the Green Party's Ten Key Values
and its four pillars of Social Justice; Nonviolence; Grassroots Democracy;
and Ecological Wisdom. To learn more about where I stand on these
other issues, and how my stands compare with those of our current
representative, please click Stuart's Platform and
select from among the many choices, including Government Secrecy and
Accountability; Financial Responsibility; Education; Environment; Crime and
Drugs; Health Care; and last but not least: The Moral Issue.
It is time for a change in Washington: A restoration of our American values
of decency, of compassion, of honesty and justice. Americans are saying
NO to politics of the corporate special interests and YES to politics
of the people.
That's why I'm asking for your vote on November 2nd.
